Association CPD Events Coming Up
Other Upcoming CPD Events Members of the Association receive a weekly email update listing other CPD events within South Australia they are eligible to attend. If you would like to know more about the benefits of membership please contact the Association on tel: (08) 210 9408 CPR REFRESHERS AND ANAPHYLAXIS AND THE USE OF THE EPIPEN (posted 22/11/10) For those that have completed the Senior First Aid training courses through the Association, anaphylaxis management is a component of this course and remains valid for 3 years. Therefore, if your senior first aid training remains current you already have the anaphylaxis management and auto defib component covered. The CPR component of training is only valid for 12 MONTHS…. Assuming you have completed your Senior First Aid Training within the last 3 years (a requirement under the SA Podiatry Act (now replaced by the National Law – refer Podiatry Board of Australia’s website www.podiatryboard.gov.au) this would have meant that you have also undergone 2 annual CPR refreshers. The cycle was once: initial training Snr first aid, 1 year later CPR Refresher, another year later CPR Refresher, following year Snr first aid. Under the New Law Senior first aid is not mandatory, however it remains listed as an acceptable course that meets registration requirements. Annual CPR updates are mandatory and must now include anaphylaxis management (the defib is already part of the CPR course). So to answer many of your questions regarding anaphylaxis management, if you hold a current senior first aid certificate you are covered until this expires. Your options in the future are to complete the CPR updates with anaphylaxis management or for practitioners that prefer to have more up to date first aid training (for example: if you are working independently and do not have medical assistance on hand, senior first aid training may be invaluable, it could save your patients life) continue with the Senior First Aid every three years with CPR updates annually.
