Since 1933 the Association has provided members with valuable resources that enhance professional status and enable continued growth and success. The South Australian Association represents over 200 members and student members. The Australian Podiatry Association SA Inc. has the major objectives of promoting, assisting, educating and representing podiatry in South Australia. Professional PresentationThe Association represents the profession at both state and national level, liasing with government and other authorities such as workers' compensation organisations, private health insurance funds, DVA, government taskforces, Standards Australia, National Allied Health Casemix Committee and the State Primary Health Alliance Committee. Policies and Guidelines The National Council and State Associations develop policies and guidelines relating to clinical practice and other issues of important to provide direction for practitioners and third parties and ensure that professional standards are maintained. Insurance A group insurance scheme ensures competitive rates, along with support in the event of a claim and advice on preventing and avoiding litigation. Financial and Banking Services In conjunction with Guild Banking Services members have access to the Podiatry Visa Gold Card, discounted rates on investment or home loans, transaction accounts with no monthly accounting fees. Other financial services include Accident and Sickness insurance, Trauma and Life Insurance and access to financial planning advice including partnership protection, estate planning and advice to trustees of self-managed superannuation funds. Professional Development The Association provides regular continuing education seminars, state conferences and national conferences, providing opportunities to share your research and professional experiences and learn from that of others. Accredited Podiatrist Program The nationally recognised Accredited Podiatrist Program is available to members by recognising their commitment to ongoing professional development and standards of practice. Findapodiatrist Members details which include practice locations are listed on the national website www.findapodiatrist.org. This website is accessible to the general public and other health providers enabling to search for a podiatrist. Accredited podiatrists display the accredited logo next to their listing. News To keep members informed and up to date, the South Australian Association produces a bi-monthly newsletter titled Footnotes. The local newsletter includes articles of interest, classifieds, advertising features, member activities, the continuing education program and the calendar of events. Members also receive the Australasian Journal of Podiatric Medicine (AJPM) which is a quarterly journal presenting the latest scientific research, clinical and professional issues. Each month members will also receive the Update Bulletin produced nationally containing articles of interest, classifieds and advertising features. Resources Access the Association's resource library of journals, slides, education videos and DVDs, promotional display stands, banners, foot models etc. Employment The Association provides classified listings for positions vacant and the monthly locum listing for members looking for work. Members can access the Employment Update file in the members only section to compare award rates, employment advice and business reporting obligations. Mentoring A range of initiatives, including the Australian Podiatry Manual distributed to new graduate members are aimed at supporting the newly graduated podiatrist. The Association is actively involved with students, providing resources for assignments and supporting the final year graduation celebrations. Advertising and Public Relations Activities The Association has regular editorials and advertising features in the Sunday Mail Health Lift Out section. Public Relations Activities include the national Foot Health Week campaign. The Association is often approached by media representatives for comments relating to foot health. Members can obtain PR material by ordering from the Resource Order form through the Australasian Podiatry Council. |
